Decauville
This beautiful mule track is half immersed in the forest, completely flat, easy, and suitable for everyone.
From Arnoga, you take path N195. After an initial stretch, where you can admire a beautiful panorama of the Cima Piazzi glacier, you enter the Breitina forest.
You reach the Foscagno Valley and cross the stream. Continuing along the main trail, you leave the forest, pass Alpe Morzaglia, and arrive at Alpe Gattonino. Here, you will find an essential crossroads with signposts for the various destinations.
The route continues straight on towards the rocky massif of the Cime di Plator.
You pass through the Sant'Antonio forest and reach the junction with the wide tarmac road that climbs to Cancano. At this point, you have already covered 10 kilometers, all of which are flat and are also used by marathon runners for altitude training.
After climbing the road for a few bends and passing two tunnels, you reach the Torri di Fraele saddle. From there, you continue to Lago delle Scale and the Cancano dams, which are in a very picturesque environment.
The Forts Trail
A suggestive path rich in history, characterized by the presence of old military fortifications and panoramic views of the Braulio Valley and the Stelvio Pass Road
Starting from the junction for the Boscopiano locality along the Stelvio Pass Road, immediately after the Bagni Vecchi di Bormio spa resort, continue to the picnic area equipped with picnic facilities; after passing it, at the junction, take the path to the left, crossing the Adda river. You begin the winding ascent, encountering a short interrupted tunnel, then more remains of buildings, and finally a beautiful panoramic terrace with unusual and extraordinary views of the impervious and majestic walls of the Braulio Valley and the winding Stelvio road; you then reach the highest point of the route (about 1,700 m). Ignoring the proposed diversions to Lago delle Scale, we continue down towards Premadio through a dense pine forest, encountering other remains of an ancient hamlet.
Cycle/pedestrian path
Sentiero Viola (Viola Trail) is the ideal itinerary for walkers and cyclists in the enchanting scenery of Alta Valtellina. It stretches for over 15 km and has a cycle-pedestrian route that originates from the hamlet of S. Carlo in Valdidentro and reaches Bormio. This cycle path, simple and accessible to all, not only allows one to immerse oneself in the surrounding natural beauty but also integrates perfectly with the Sentiero Valtellina, a wider itinerary that starts in Bormio, near the Pentagon.
Incorporating the Sentiero Viola into the broader context of the Valtellina cycling routes creates an extraordinary opportunity for cycling enthusiasts to explore the region's scenic beauty. Passing through the Alpine valleys, visitors can admire the characteristic villages and take advantage of the various rest stops.
With the recent completion of the Viola trail in the direction of Bormio, Alta Valtellina confirms itself as an ideal destination for those wishing to enjoy a peaceful outdoor experience in a safe environment away from vehicular traffic.
Bormio 360
The new adventure in the Bormio area is a high-altitude itinerary that takes a 360° tour through the beautiful alpine valleys, which can be enjoyed on foot or by e-bike and mountain bike.
It is a loop route that stretches for about 140 kilometers and has a total altitude difference of about 6.200 meters. It crosses the mountain slopes of the five municipalities of Bormio (Bormio, Sondalo, Valdidentro, Valdisotto, and Valfurva) at an average altitude of about 2.000 meters, varying between 837 meters and 2.462 meters. This route is exceptional for both trekking and mountain biking. For an optimal experience, we recommend tackling it with an electric bike, especially in the stages with a considerable difference in altitude.
Bormio 360 is divided into ten distinct stages, which offer a wide range of landscapes and allow you to adapt your physical effort. You can ride the entire circuit or just a part, splitting it over several days and staying at mountain huts and alpine pastures along the way. Each segment is characterized by a specific theme, highlighted by signs and information totems recalling the environmental, historical, cultural, and naturalistic peculiarities of the area crossed.
