A journey through the history of Valdidentro, amidst stone, memories and timeless landscapes

From 13 July to 7 September, every Monday there will be special guided tours of the Torre di Fraele Ovest, one of the most fascinating and symbolic sites in Valdidentro’s historical heritage.

A wonderful opportunity to explore the history of the area, discovering at first hand one of the ancient towers which, for centuries, have guarded the passage between Valtellina, the Upper Valley and the routes leading northwards.

🏰 A symbol of Valdidentro’s history

The Fraele Towers are among the most iconic landmarks in Valdidentro: two silent, evocative structures overlooking the famous hairpin bends that wind their way up towards Cancano, set against a landscape of great charm.

The West Fraele Tower, which is open for guided tours, thus becomes the starting point for a narrative that brings together history, the local area and memory.

Through the guide’s commentary, participants will gain a better understanding of the strategic role of the towers, their defensive function and their deep connection with the ancient Alpine trade routes.

👣 A short, intense and engaging visit

The tours will last about an hour and will take place in two afternoon sessions:

  • first round at 4.00 pm
  • second round at 5.00 pm

Each tour will be limited to small groups of no more than 15 people, to ensure a more intimate, authentic and engaging experience.

A simple yet special way to experience a place that is often admired from the outside, discovering its details, stories and interesting facts.

🌿 In partnership with the Stelvio National Park

The initiative is organised in collaboration with the Stelvio National Park to showcase one of the area’s most picturesque spots and offer residents and visitors an accessible, high-quality cultural experience.

The cost of taking part is €5.00, and booking is compulsory, either online or at the Valdidentro Tourist Office.
