A delightful visual theatre show for children and families, in which feet, legs and bodies become comical and imaginative characters.
Thomas Anselmi
As part of Valdidentro’s Estate dei Piccoli, an original, entertaining and surprising show is coming to town: “Va’ dove ti porta il piede”, a visual theatre production that captivates both children and adults through its immediate, creative and universal language.
The show brings to life the unique and fascinating world of foot puppetry, a form of puppetry in which the performer’s body — and in particular their feet, legs and knees — is transformed into a gallery of comical, expressive and imaginative characters.
“Go where your feet take you” is a kind of manifesto for a form of puppetry that uses the body to create dozens of different characters.
Before the audience’s eyes, feet become faces, legs turn into little living puppets, knees come to life, and every part of the body helps to create surprising scenes, stories and situations.
The result is a visual, comic and poetic spectacle that conveys its message without the need for grand words, through gestures, rhythm, music, transformations and images.
The show brings together a selection of classic pieces from the international repertoire of Laura Kibel, an artist who has championed and reinvented foot theatre, developing its techniques, content and expressive possibilities.
With humour, rhythm and colour, “Go Where Your Feet Take You” tackles universal themes such as the struggle between good and evil, peace and love, transforming them into light-hearted, entertaining scenes that everyone can enjoy.
Every character is the result of a transformation: costumes, noses, wigs, accessories and stage props bring to life figures that are comical, endearing, unpredictable and full of character.
Designed for children and families, “Go Where Your Feet Take You” is a show that will surprise even adults.
The strength of the production lies in its immediacy: the audience sees the characters come to life before their very eyes and is drawn into a theatrical performance that is simple only in appearance, but rich in technique, inventiveness and craftsmanship.
It is a show suitable for both the theatre and open-air venues, capable of inspiring wonder with just a few elements and a visual language that speaks to everyone.
The experience is made all the more evocative by the music, the sound effects and a set design featuring painted antique suitcases, each containing stories, costumes and accessories.
Every suitcase becomes a small gateway to a new world: when opened, it reveals scenic elements that allow the characters to take shape, transforming the stage into a space for play, imagination and wonder.
