A two-person staged reading by and starring Carlo Arrigoni and Mattia Cattaneo
Thomas Anselmi
At the heart of Valtellina’s history, among popular beliefs and the darker pages of the past, comes to life “Voices of Fire – stories and tales of witchcraft”, an intense and evocative staged reading that brings back to light the phenomenon of witchcraft that spread between the 15th and 17th centuries.
This is not a simple historical narration, but an experience that weaves together words, emotions and memory, giving voice to men and women swept up in one of the most difficult chapters of our history.
Presented in a semi-theatrical form, the performance guides the audience through stories, accounts and anecdotes related to the presence of witches, sorcerers and witchcraft practices in Valtellina, including episodes drawn from works such as “Al tempo delle streghe”, with references to the Bormio area, as well as narratives collected from local texts and traditions, including “Storie di streghe in Valtellina e Valchiavenna”.
Through a two-voice interpretation, the words come alive thanks to Carlo Arrigoni and Mattia Cattaneo, actors from the cultural association Architetti delle Parole, who lead the audience on an engaging journey, revealing the deeper meaning of events marked by fear, superstition and injustice, as well as by the need to understand and remember.
An evening that invites the audience to listen, reflect and be carried away on a journey through history and storytelling, where the voices of the past return to be heard.
