A workshop combining light, paper and imagination, to create silhouettes inspired by mountain animals and bring the magical world of shadow theatre to life
Thomas Anselmi
As part of Valdidentro’s Estate dei Piccoli, a special event: a creative workshop on shadows, designed to introduce young children to the language of theatre, imagination and visual storytelling.
The activity will be led by Giacomo Occhi, who will guide the children through a wonderful experience in which light, paper and imagination come together to create a story.

Shadows have always had a mysterious, fascinating quality: they change shape, move, and transform, allowing stories to be told with just a few elements.
During the workshop, children will discover the magic of shadow theatre and learn how a shadow is created, how it can become a character, and how, using small gestures and simple materials, they can create a short animation.
After a brief introduction to the art of shadow theatre, each participant will create their own silhouettes inspired by mountain animals: deer, owls, foxes, ibex and other woodland creatures.
Once the characters have been created, the children will learn how to bring the shadows to life, experimenting with movement, transformations and small theatrical gestures behind the illuminated screen.
The workshop will guide the children through a creative journey involving building, dramatic play and imagination.
Participants will be able to create simple silhouettes, see how light transforms objects into vivid images, and learn how to bring them to life through movement.
To enable the children to get the most out of playing with shadows, the workshop will take place indoors in a space suitable for working with light and creating projections.
This will allow us to make the most of the shadows' effect and offer participants a more immersive and engaging experience.
The activity is aimed at children aged 4 and over and will be organised into two sessions, each lasting approximately 1.5 hours.
Each session can accommodate up to 15 children, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate actively and receive individual attention.
