The side valleys of the municipality of Valdidentro (Cancano, Val Viola and Val Lia) are currently accessible, subject to verification of road conditions and to winter tyres being fitted.

N.B. Due to recent snowfall at high altitudes and weather conditions, we invite you to contact the Valdidentro Tourist Office for updates on road conditions and specific advice on the actual possibility of transit.

Access tickets

To reach these valleys, you must purchase a daily ticket costing € 5,00 per vehicle, which is valid for transit and parking.

Tickets to access Cancano can be purchased at the automatic ticket machines located along the access roads. The ticket machines accept coins, banknotes and credit cards, but do not give change.

As for Val Lia, due to the limited number of parking spaces, to access the car parks, you must have a ticket that can be purchased at the Valdidentro Tourist Office during opening hours (even on previous days).

The ticket must be displayed on the vehicle's dashboard in a clearly visible manner, both during transit and while parked (motorcycles are not required to display the ticket, but it must be carried with you).

Please note that these roads are not accessible to motorhomes and caravans.

Regulations

Cancano

From 1st September until the road closes for the winter, vehicles are allowed to travel on the road around the lakes, subject to the purchase of an access ticket.

N.B. UPDATE AS OF 12 NOVEMBER >> Given the conditions of the road surface along the perimeter road (snow and ice), it is necessary to leave your car in the car parks located at the entrance to the valley, in the Palazzina A2A area.

There is no dedicated shuttle service to Cancano or the mountain resorts; this service is only available during the summer months of July and August.

Val Viola

Val Viola, as long as the road is open and passable, can be reached by car up to the P4 car park located in "Altumeira" until all spaces are taken.

N.B. UPDATE AS OF 12 NOVEMBER >> Given the condition of the road surface, we recommend leaving your car in Arnoga, at the entrance to the valley.

Val Lia

From 1 September, Val Lia is accessible up to the car park in "Prescedont".

Access tickets can only be purchased at the Valdidentro Tourist Office.

UPDATE AS OF 4/11/2025 >> The only refreshment point open during this period is Agriturismo Baita Caricc in Val Viola, open on Saturdays and Sundays (tel. +39 0342 232254).

All other mountain huts and refreshment points are currently closed.

Car parks

Cancano

The Cancano valley has large, numbered and well-signposted car parks, located mainly in the section between the Torri di Fraele and the entrance to the Cancano dam, as well as around the perimeter of the second lake, particularly in the S. Giacomo area.

Val Viola

In Val Viola, in addition to the Altumeira car park, there are other car parks along the access road, but with minimal capacity. If these car parks are not available, you can leave your car in the car park near Baita Viola, at the entrance to the valley, or above the Albergo Viola hotel.

Val Lia

Val Lia has some relatively small car parks (Praolin, Prada Benedida and Prescedont) along the access road and a larger one in the locality of "Plan de li Astela". The car park near the small church of Prescedont is not accessible in July and August.
