Mountain roads, as agro-sylvo-pastoral roads, are subject to specific regulations governing how they can be accessed
Valdidentro Tourism
The side valleys of the Valdidentro municipality (Cancano, Val Viola and Val Lia) are currently accessible.
A daily ticket for € 5.00, valid for transit and parking, is always necessary to reach these valleys.
Cancano and Val Viola access tickets can be purchased at the automatic totems along the access roads. The totems accept coins, banknotes and credit cards but do not give change.
Since there are a relatively limited number of parking spaces in Val Lia, you must have a ticket to access the car parks, which can only be purchased at the Valdidentro Tourist Office during opening hours (even on previous days).
The ticket must be displayed on the vehicle's dashboard in a visible position during transit and parking (motorbikes are not obliged to display the ticket, but it must be carried with you).
Please note that these roads are not accessible to motor homes and caravans.
During the summer months of July and August, which are characterised by a more significant influx of tourists, as far as Cancano is concerned, from 5 July to 30 August, there is also a restriction on vehicular transit on the road around the lakes from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and a shuttle service is therefore provided.
During this period, it is also possible to reach the area by public transport, leaving from Bormio (timetables can be consulted here) or by the Cancano Express service, operating from 5 July to 30 August. The service leaves from Piazza IV Novembre in Isolaccia at 09:30 and returns from Cancano at 17:00 (except on 11 and 26 July and 31 August). Between 9 and 17 August, an additional run departs at 10:30 a.m. and a further return run at 06 p.m.

On the days of 5-6, 12-13, 19-20 and every day from 26 July to 31 August, Val Viola is served by a shuttle service that allows you to travel the stretch of road from Arnoga to Altumeira on board a vehicle.

The Cancano Valley has large, numbered and well-marked car parks, mainly located between the Torri di Fraele and the entrance to the Cancano dam.
In Val Viola, in addition to the Altumeira car park, there are other car parks along the access road, but they are of minimal capacity. If these parking spaces are unavailable, you can leave your car in the car park near Baita Viola, at the entrance to the valley, or above Albergo Viola.
Val Lia has several relatively small car parks (Praolin, Prada Benedida, and Prescedont) along the access road and a larger one at 'Plan de li Astela'. The car park at the little church in Prescedont is inaccessible between 5 July and 31 August.
