An evening to commemorate the 200-year history of the Stelvio Road
Valdidentro Tourism
On 17 August 2025, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the construction of the Stelvio Road, the Polifunzionale di Rasin will host a special evening that blends theatre, history, and memory to pay tribute to one of the most iconic engineering feats in the Alps.
The Stelvio Road, inaugurated in 1825 and designed by the engineer Carlo Donegani, is a masterpiece of 19th-century civil engineering. Built in just five years, it connects Bormio to Spondigna through 88 hairpin bends and seven tunnels, reaching an altitude of 2,758 meters. This route played a crucial role in linking Milan to Vienna without passing through Switzerland and, over time, became a symbol of connection between different cultures and a stage for historical and sporting events.
The evening will feature Giacomo Occhi, a poetic-comic actor born in 1992 who wrote and will perform the tribute. He began performing at a young age as a juggler and later pursued studies in theatre and film. He has written and performed numerous shows for audiences of all ages, including the acclaimed Tribute to Gaber, which was enthusiastically received in Valdidentro in the summer of 2024.
Through a mix of storytelling, visuals, and evocative moments, the show will retrace the challenges, sacrifices, and struggles of those who turned the Stelvio Road into a symbol of human determination and ingenuity. An emotional journey that celebrates not only the architectural feat but also the stories and cultures it has united over two centuries.
This is an unmissable event for anyone wishing to dive into the history and emotions linked to the Stelvio Road. An evening to rediscover, through the language of theatre, the power of a work that continues to captivate and inspire.
